Ca' Foscari University of Venice has a national and international outstanding reputation for academic excellence in both teaching and research. Established in 1868 as a Royal Business College, Ca’ Foscari University of Venice was the first educational institution in Italy to offer higher education in business and economics and the second in Europe. Ca’ Foscari offers 4 main subject areas of teaching and research activities (economics, humanities, languages and sciences). In one of its departments (the one of Philosophy and Education) has been established the International Center of Studies for Educational Research and Advanced Training (CISRE). It aims to promote educational research and advanced training, cooperation between professors and researchers both Italian and international, involvement of national and international stakeholders of the educational system. CISRE’s mission consists in conduction of studies and researches concerning different forms and strategies of university education and variety of users and access path to lifelong learning. Furthermore, it is involved in the implementation of research projects, both national and international, in the context of multimedia and education system evaluation. The same department offers a PhD in education, strictly related to CISRE. The PhD objective is the training of highly professional human resources, suitable both in the research field and in productive, social and service organizations. During the last years, researches have been focusing on psycho-pedagogy and education. With regard to the first model, great emphasis has been placed on forms and process of learning. In fact, it was identified the epistemological renewal happening to educational theories, due to post-cognitivist and recent educational neurosciences evidences. Regarding then the second model, the main research topics consists in adult education, and in particular in: • the relationship between capability approach framework and the evolution of educational practice both in organizations and companies; • the connection between education and innovation after welfare crisis; • the deep renewal of the concept of education in a welfare perspective; • the plural and progressive transformation of educational sciences, according to I. Lakatos research methodology.
