Ca' Foscari University of Venice has a national and international outstanding reputation for academic excellence in both teaching and research. Established in 1868 as a Royal Business College, Ca’ Foscari University of Venice was the first educational institution in Italy to offer higher education in business and economics and the second in Europe. Ca’ Foscari offers 4 main subject areas of teaching and research activities (economics, humanities, languages and sciences). After the reorganization of the university academic structure implemented by the Italian Higher Education Reform, following the Bologna Process, Ca' Foscari offers 17 First Cycle Degree Programmes and 33 Second Cycle Degree Programmes, 35 Specialist Master’s Programmes, 1 EMJMD, 14 PhD Programmes. Ca’ Foscari students can choose among many international Double and Joint Degree Programmes and English-taught Degree Programmes included in the University educational catalogue. Ca’ Foscari has 8 departments, 1 Challenge School, 1 Summer School for International Education, 4 Interdepartmental Schools, 1 International College, 1 Learning Centre Library, 4 subject-related Libraries and Departmental Libraries. Major research facilities are available to Ca’ Foscari students and faculty staff - 23 laboratories and research centers (for sciences, languages, computer sciences, etc), with more than 550 workplaces open all year long. Students are supported before, during and after their study period at Ca’ Foscari by an experienced administrative structured organization which is specifically designed to meet the whole educational and logistical needs of the students and the faculty staff. A whole series of facilities is available: Italian language courses, housing facilities, guidance services, etc. There are almost 20,000 students, 4,000 new enrolments per year, over 3,500 graduates per year, 500 faculty staff members and 580 administrative staff members. Ca’ Foscari has signed hundreds of international cooperation agreements with universities from all over the world, in order to promote mobility, research and training. It actively participates in European programmes for education and training and research, with projects involving partner institutions from all continents. Ca’ Foscari actively participates in the lively cultural life of Venice, by organizing over 800 arts, literature, cinema events every year, in collaboration with other renowned cultural institutions. Ca’ Foscari has developed an articulated Quality Assurance system, in compliance with national laws and European recommendations, covering its didactic, research and administrative issues. A central Quality Assurance Unit, with decentralized QA Units are in charge of implementing roadmaps designed by the university governance members. New ICT tools (Datawarehouse, Key Performance Indicators Catalogue, etc.) for monitoring and evaluation activities have recently been introduced. Ca’ Foscari has been ranked in several international rankings. In 2016 it has been ranked 701 in the QS World University Ranking and in 2 different Subject Areas in the QS by subject: Modern languages (151 – 200), Economics and Econometrics (151 – 200), and in Arts & Humanities (226) in Qs Ranking by Faculty. In 2015 Ca’ Foscari University has been ranked 401-500 by Times Higher Education World University Ranking. For CENSIS- Repubblica UNIVE was ranked 11 out of 17 between Italian medium-size public universities. UNIVE ranked 5 among Italian universities for research by Times Higher Education Ranking in 2015. The group of researchers involved in the Project refered to the CISRE (Centro Internazionale per la Ricerca Educativa e la Formazione Avanzata) - Interuniversity Centre for Education Research and Advanced Training) (http://www.univirtual.it/cirdfa/node/1), in Dipartement Of Philosophy and Cultural Heritage of the University of Venice Ca‘ Foscari. Well before its foundation, the CISRE was focused on the design and implementation of strategies for the development and qualification of new teaching methods and related learning environments . The CISRE has quickly developed a reputation as a reliable partner in national and international research projects, bearing on key aspects of innovation in teaching as well as on new methodologies for blended, integrated multi-media based training, introduction of ICT in secondary schools, implementation of e-learning models for teacher training (such as the e-learning platform UNIVIRTUAL, on www.univirtual.it), evaluation of school systems, training and the job market, ECTS systems, recognition of informal and non-formal learning in teaching profession, certifying competences, intercultural education and diversity management, educational cooperation in post-conflict and emerging societies.
